William Rose Painting is Acquired by Renowned Collector

Shawnee, Kansas (February 15, 2010) - Signature Canvas is pleased to announce William Rose’s painting, “About Face”, which was painted on a Signature Canvas has been acquired by the prominent art collector Howard Tullman of Chicago for his incredible collection of contemporary figurative art – one of the largest in the country.

William Rose is becoming one of the preeminent figurative artists in the United States and has received commissions for many local and national art collectors. Recently Rose’s painting, “About Face”, was featured in the exclusive Artists and Poets quarterly where it attracted the attention of Howard Tullman. “Within days of the magazine being published, I received an email from Mr. Tullman inquiring about the availability of my painting, and he purchased it that afternoon for his gallery in downtown Chicago. I am thrilled and honored to be among the extraordinary artists included in Tullman's remarkable collection – many of whom have inspired me throughout my career.”

For the past few years the self-taught artist's medium of choice has been charcoal, but Rose recently began painting with oil. “Because I'm self-taught, I had always been somewhat intimidated by oils, but once I jumped in, I found that it opened up an entirely new world of color, technique and texture to express myself in the figures and portraits I create. I had heard about Signature Canvas and the quality they represent from many of the artists I knew in town and so it was a easy choice to begin using them for my canvases. And it sure didn't hurt that they are located here in town and are the only US manufacturer of artist canvas.”

“About Face” is the first in a series of large figurative face paintings – all on canvases measuring 4' x 4' or larger. Rose just completed the 2nd in the series and intends to have 8 – 10 canvases completed by this summer. Since he recently began focusing on his artwork full time, he has received a flurry of accolades and awards from juried shows, publications and organizations across the country. And just last year, following a prestigious cover feature with American Artist Magazine, William was asked to produce all of the artwork that appears in a new film associated with the Eastwoods in Carmel, California. It's about a teenage art prodigy who gets involved in international forgery. His artwork has also recently been featured in competitions including Artist Magazine's “The Year's Best Art”, American Artist Magazine's 70th Anniversary Competition, and International Artist Magazine's 2009 Annual competition.

Howard Tullman is rapidly becoming one of the most prominent collectors of contemporary figurative artwork in the country. His collection has been featured multiple times in the monthly publication, American Art Collector. In addition to amassing an incredible collection of art, he serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Flashpoint Academy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Experiencia, Inc., and President Emeritus of Kendall College, in Chicago. Tullman is also General Managing Partner for the Chicago High Tech Investors, LLC and a Director of The Cobalt Group and Passage Events in Seattle. He is a Trustee of WTTW in Chicago and an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Evanston, Illinois.
