Chicago Wilderness Adds Nine Members
Chicago Wilderness is pleased to welcome nine new members:
The Field Station Cooperative provides environmental education programs for parents and students. Units focus on studying animal groups, understanding habitats, and exploring ecosystems in local preserves, such as the Indiana Dunes.
Experiencia Immersive Education Foundation uses hands-on ecosystem simulation to teach kids about global issues. Students become environmental scientists as they attempt to recognize problems and rebalance their play-ecosystems. The foundation also awards many scholarships.
Deerfield High School runs an environmental education program, heads the Network of Environmental Science Teachers, and participates in conservation efforts (pdf) including the North Branch Restoration Project.
Lauderdale Lakes Conservancy Inc. runs education and conservation programs throughout its 40-acre Island Woods preserve.
Kenosha Racine Land Trust aims to protect the land within Kenosha and Racine Counties from development, while educating landowners and municipalities on managing their natural resources.
Roots & Shoots, Great Lakes, a program of the Jane Goodall Institute, runs local service activities, restoration projects, and educational initiatives around protection of domestic and wild animals.
Fishin’ Buddies is a nonprofit program that uses fishing to expose kids to the benefits of being outdoors.
The Riding Club of Barrington Hills protects and restores the Spring Creek Preserve, in which its facilities are located, through horseback monitoring and replanting of native flora.
Frankfort Square Park District owns and restores over 460 acres of natural land and runs several educational and conservation programs.
