Words of Wisdom - "F"

Face life as you find it, defiantly and unafraid.  Waste no energy yearning for the moon.  Crush out all sentiment.

Facebook: stay focused and keep shipping.

Faced with apathy, I will take action.  Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground.

"Face value" has none.

Facilities for the non-verbal middle class.

Facts change, truth doesn’t.

Facts do not cease to be because they are ignored.

Fail, fail again, fail better.

Fail often, succeed sooner.

Failing to plan is like planning to fail.

Failure is a better teacher than success.

Failure is a blow and success is a pleasant distraction.

Failure is impossible.

Failure is just another word for education.

Failure is just delayed success.

Failure is not a loss; it is a mindset.

Failure is not an option.

Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently.

Failure is so permanent and success will always be taken away from you next time.

Failure is the path of least persistence.

Failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Failures are skinned knees-painful but superficial.

Failures of kindness

Failures tend to examine their suppositions about life; the successful are more likely to celebrate themselves as good examples.

Fair is some place you go to look at the animals.

Fair is where you end up. (Ari Emanuel)

Fairy tales teach children to meet the forces of the mythical world with cunning and high spirits.

Faith is believing one of two things will happen:  that there will be something solid for you to stand on or you will be taught to fly.

Faith is believing what you know ain't so.

Faith is the antithesis of proof.

Faithfulness is a social not a biological law.

Fall down seven times, get up eight.

Fall seven times, stand up eight.

Fame is a vapor.  Popularity an accident.  Riches take wings.  Only one thing endures, and that is character.

Fame is like cocaine.  People think they can control it-but they can't.

Fame is morally neutral.

Fame is the first disgrace.

Familiarity breeds comfort until it suddenly breeds contempt.

Fanaticism consists in redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim.

Faster, faster until the thrill of the speed overcomes the fear of death.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go thru life.

Fathers often use too much force.

Fatigue makes cowards of us all.

Favor passion over intellect or credentials.

Fear always springs from ignorance (illuminate the cause-eliminate the fear).

Fear and I were born twins. (Hobbes)

Fear is the greatest incapacitator.

Fear is the thing that defeats us all.

Fear vs. greed.

Feasibility will compromise you soon enough.

Feconventilatory collision.

Feel free to rearrange the universe.

Ferocious learning

Fetters of gold are still fetters.
Few men of action have been able to make a graceful exit at the appropriate time.

Few people have the imagination for reality. (Goethe)

Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.

Fiction reveals things that reality obscures.

Fierce focus can be too much of a good thing.

Figure out where you leave off and everybody else begins.

Fill your life with the things that deserve to be there.

Film is a collaborative business:  bend over.

Finagle's four rules:
  1.       The information you have is not the information you want.
  2.       The information you want is not the information you need.
  3.       The information you need is the information you can't obtain.
  4.       The information you can obtain costs more than you want to pay.

Find a wall and try to move it.

Find out what prevents someone from doing a good job.

Find the truth.  Act on it.

Finely wrought or overwrought.

Finis origine pendet (the end depends upon the beginning).

Firefighting: putting the wet stuff on the red stuff.

First do it, then say it.

First generation software: the first buyers are the last beta-testers.

First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is.

First we will be best, then we will be first.

First you dream, then you die.

Fish stinks from the head.

Fishing in a place where you know there are no fish.

Five-factor model: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, neuroticism.

Flabbergasted:  appalled over how much weight you have gained.

Flattery is like cologne – to be smelled, but not swallowed.

Flaubert:  Be regular and ordinary in your life, like a bourgeois, so that you may be
violent and original in your work.

Flirtation-attention without intention.

Fluency is the goal – not competency. That’s a bridge too far.

Focus and simplicity are a workforce multiplier.

Focus doesn’t mean saying “yes” to the thing you’ve got to focus on. It means saying “no” to the 100 other good ideas that are out there.

Focus on making things better, not bigger.

Focus on the user and all else will follow.

Focus on those things you do better than others

Focused attentional states facilitate learning.

Follow me if I advance,
Kill me if I retreat,
Avenge me if I die.

Follow-up prevents foul-up.

Football is about character, not personality.

Football is about hard work, pain and losing.

Football is not a contact sport; it is a collision sport.  Dancing is a contact sport.

For a speech to be immortal, it need not be interminable.

For a young person it is almost a sin-and certainly a danger to be too much occupied with himself; but for the aging person, it is a duty and a necessity to give serious attention to himself.

For authentic living, what is necessary is the resolute confrontation of death.

For every man there exists a bait which he cannot resist swallowing.

For every problem there is one solution which is simple, neat and wrong.

For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it? (Luke 14:28)

For whom else but you?

Forecasts are dangerous, especially those about the future.

Forever caught between accommodation and rage.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Forewarned is forlorn.

Forget motivating your employees, just don’t de-motivate them.

Forget the past.  No one becomes successful in the past.

“Friend of mine” is better than “top of mind”

Friends are the family that we choose.

Friends are the family that you choose for yourself.

Friends aren’t necessarily the people you like best; they are merely the people who got there first.

Friends come and go, but enemies accumulate.

Friends don’t fire friends.

Friends welcome, relatives by appointment only.

From fortune to misfortune is but a step; from misfortune to fortune is a long way.

From here on down, it’s all uphill.

From the old guard to the vanguard

Frosting on a road apple.

Fuck the puck
