JULES WEINSTEIN - TASTY TRADE AND BOOTSTRAPPING IN AMERICA PRODUCER PAR EXCELLENCE - RETIRES

JULES WEINSTEIN - TASTY TRADE & BOOTSTRAPPING PRODUCER PAR EXCELLENCE - RETIRES

Jules Weinstein:

As many of you know, or quite possibly don't.  Bootstrapping in America has ended.

I actually retired at the end of November in 2024, and I needed some time to adjust to this retirement thing before I wanted in put this into words.

I created and produced Bootstrapping in America in November of 2011.  I always believed in the uniqueness of individuals which was the driving force that led me to create Bootstrapping in America, later to be called Bootstrapping with Dylan Ratigan.  So we started an interview series mostly about entrepreneurs from true startups to established companies, and restauranteurs/chefs, and other people from the arts.   Restaurants and chefs were the best because I always had them bring food.  This was a nice perk - everybody knows we were and are some of the biggest foodies in the world.

We had 3 hosts and 2 co-hosts.  Tom Sosnoff was the original host, then Kristi Ross, and of course Dylan Ratigan.  I want to thank all of them for a job well done.  Tony Battista was the co-host for a very long time.  I want to thank him for always being there and doing whatever needed to be done.  The other co-host, was myself, who was probably the worst co-host in the history of streaming services.

The best thing about producing the show was meeting all of the interesting and successful entrepreneurs, and all of the entrepreneurs who were just getting their feet wet.  Watching people take an idea and seeing it grow was one of the most exciting things about my job.

We had over 2500 entrepreneurs on the show from all walks of life and backgrounds, and from all over the world.  Some of the people that put us on the map early on were Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (before he held office),  Tom Gonser, founder of Docusign (the first Unicorn we had on), and our pal, Howard Tullman, serial entrepreneur, who was our go to friend of the show (he was a guest more than 30 times, and always interesting).  There is not enough room here to mention all of the guests who came on, but you all had a part in our success.

I also want to thank all of the PR Reps, and the co-working managers across the country who gave us referrals.  You were all instrumental in helping us grow,

Many people don' t know this, but when Tom and I started Bootstrapping, I was living in LA, and I gave him the idea after I met actress, Mary Lynn Rajskub, who starred in 24 with Kiefer Sutherland.  I thought it would be cool to break up all the finance/trading shows with an interview series that had nothing to do with trading.  He wasn't thrilled about it, but they needed shows to fill time, so he said ok - the show ran for 14 years.

It was a great experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks Tom.

WATCH THE SHOW HERE: https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/wdis-top-dogs/episodes/timing-trades-after-movement-08-03-2018?utm_campaign=archive&utm_medium=link&utm_source=social-share

Howard and Tom aim to diversify some of his underlyings today by adding a few commodities and different sector exposure.
Tom explains how to set up a Jade Lizard strategy, which is a neutral to bullish strategy in ATVI and then walks through the breakevens and probability of profit.
They get neutral in FB and then focus on TSLA with a bearish, defined-risk Iron Condor.
With Gold bouncing back a little from its lows today, they decide to hold off until Monday to see if it pulls back for better trade location.
Finally, they wrap things up with a look at Howard's portfolio greeks and add to his theta by scaling up a position in Docusign, DOCU.

WDIS: Where Do I Start? Tom Sosnoff and Kaplan Institute ED Howard Tullman

WATCH THE SHOW HERE: https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/wdis-top-dogs/episodes/wdis-top-dogs-portfolio-volatility-07-16-2018?utm_campaign=archive&utm_medium=link&utm_source=social-share

Tom and Howard review their portfolio and discuss how the short premium positions they put on have reduced the volatility of the P/L of the portfolio. Today they look to close out winning positions and manage a couple positions that haven't gone their way. They closed out Covered Call positions in CRM, DIS, ORCL, and SPOT for near max profit. In AMZN and GOOGL, they closed out condors for near max profit. They then managed a couple of the losing position, rolling up a naked put in MSFT against an ITM short call, and rolled up naked puts in FB that were sold against short stock.

TASTY TRADE - WHERE DO I START - ROLLOVERS WITH TOM AND HOWARD

In a special birthday edition of "Where Do I Start?: Top Dogs," Howard Tullman kicks things off by discussing Amazon's recent news and its impact on other stocks.
Howard questions whether or not the Amazon effect truly "negative" when the stocks are still at all-time highs.
With travel on both Howard and Tom's agendas, they use today's segment to roll Howard's positions and clean up the portfolio.
tastytrade's research has shown that 21 DTE (days to expiration) is the optimal point of adjustment/rolling into the next monthly expiration cycle. Therefore, Howard and Tom use the tastyworks downloadable platform to move his positions forward. While most of Howard's rolls are pretty simple, there are a few trades that are require a bit more thinking. Tune in to see which stocks raise flags for Tom and Howard!

https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/wdis-top-dogs/episodes/wdis-top-dogs-getting-familiar-with-the-platform-05-25-2018?utm_campaign=archive&utm_medium=link&utm_source=social-share

Tom and Howard jump into the tastyworks platform for the first time!
They first walk through the basic account settings and set up order routing defaults. After that, they take Howard's list of fifteen stocks he selected to be long, short, or neutral, and add them to his own custom watchlist. The stocks include; AAPL, CRM, SPOT, DOCU, NFLX, DIS, AMZN, SFIX, GOOGL, DBX, XOM, T, FB, CMCSA, and SBUX.
After completing the watchlist the dynamic duo head to the trade-page to walk through how to place a buy or sell order for 100 shares of stock.
Next week Tom and Howard plan to start building the portfolio.

Session Two - Kaplan Institute Exec Director Howard Tullman Learning Options Trading from Tom Sosnoff

WATCH THE SHOW HERE: https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/wdis-top-dogs/episodes/wdis-top-dogs-building-a-portfolio-part-1-05-21-2018

Howard comes to the table with his homework from last week - picking 15 stocks to build his portfolio around, selecting ten stocks on the long side and 3 stock on the short side. The longs include: AMZN, SPOT, CRM, AAPL, and GOOGL among others. On the short side, he is interested in FB, CMCSA, and SBUX. From the neutral side he selects XOM and T.
Tom then explains the basics of correlation and beta to show how Howard’s basket of stocks would perform if the overall market went up or down. Since some of these stocks are high priced, Tom suggests using options on AMZN and GOOGL to simulate the same exposure while using much less capital.
Friday they will start building their watchlist and place a couple of trades in these underlyings.

1871 CEO Howard Tullman on Bootstrapping - Tasty Trade

WATCH THE WHOLE THING: https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/what-i-m-thinking/episodes/what-im-thinking-12-12-2016

Watch the Whole Thing Here: https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/what-i-m-thinking/episodes/what-im-thinking-12-12-2016

This segment is a wide-ranging discussion about current trends in business and society with a focus on recent developments in the the field of technology. Howard Tullman, the CEO of 1871, the largest tech incubator in the United States, stopped by the studio to talk with Tom and Tony.
The discussion opened with Howard describing how much he enjoyed a Bruce Springsteen concert at the White House and how impressed he was after seeing how Springsteen created a song (he learned this from information on a Boxed Set of Springsteen albums). Howard also mentioned the lyrics of recent Nobel laureate Bob Dylan. This led to Tom’s story of how his cousin acquired a Dylan signed Les Paul guitar that they sold years ago for not much more than pizza money (ouch). President Elect Trump’s upcoming meeting with the heads of tech companies was briefly mentioned and the subject eventually turned to IPOs. Howard explained how Private Equity Funds were making all the money (mainly through M&A) and little, if anything, was left for individual investors. He thought the equity crowdfunding rules would make it difficult for the little guy to win.
Howard congratulated everyone on the coming launch of tastyworks and promised he would be back shortly after its launch on January 3, 2017. Tom then asked what was new at 1871 and Howard discussed Knowledge Hound. Knowledge Hound is a marketplace for marketing knowledge and market research. It organizes the data so firms can know what they have and gives them the opportunity to sell the information to others, in an anonymous fashion, which will result in cost savings for the buyer and seller. For many CEOs the truth is that “We don’t know what we know”. Knowledge Hound will help CEOs and others know what they know and be able to put it to better use.
This led into the conclusion of the show and how AT&T is offering to test employees for their deficiencies (mainly tech). They will pay for their employees continuing education (on their own time) and pledge loyalty to their employees in response. Howard explained the advantages to the employee of having a good paying job and to the employer in in less turnover. The discussion could have gone on but we ran out of time.
Watch this segment of “What I’m Thinking” featuring Howard Tullman, Tom Sosnoffand Tony Battista for an interesting, wide-ranging and in-depth discussion of technology and cultural trends.
