Words of Wisdom - 'W" - Part 2

We remember everything but we recall very little.

We respond to a drama to that extent to which it corresponds to our dream life.

We run, we don't walk.

We see all. Videmus Omnia

We see best what we are supposed to see.

We shape our tools, and then our tools shape us.

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it and stop there, lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid.  She will not sit down on a hot stove-lid again—but also, she will never sit down on a cold one anymore.

We should never agree to surrender our dreams – especially to our children.

We shouldn't confuse what we do with who we are.  We are accountable for our
actions, but we are not them.  To fail at a task doesn't mean you're a failure, and
just because you lose doesn't make you a loser.

We show them how we disappoint them.

We started but we didn't up.

We suffer from knowing the numbers.

We tell ourselves stories in order to live.

We tell ourselves that skill is the precious resource and effort is the commodity. It’s the other way around. Effort can trump ability.

We tend to blame ourselves for actions that nobody else cares about, and to forgive ourselves for what others regard as misdeeds.

We think that if we can label a thing we have understood it.

We thought we were getting laid, when we were really getting screwed.

We treat those too full of hope as naïve.

We try to make the uncertain certain.

We wanderers are very cunning-we develop those feelings which are impossible to
fulfill, and the love which actually should belong to a woman, we lightly scatter
among small towns and mountains...

We want bread, but we want roses, too.

We want it said that when it mattered most, we measured up.

We want the competition to find our warm campfires-by then, we'll be over the
next ridge.

We want to fall in love; we want it to move us.  It doesn’t need to be beautiful (in the traditional sense), but it does need to possess some sort of power.  We want to be challenged by it.  We want to be disturbed by it.

We were a family – each had tough and durable wires of sympathy connecting him with the others that he would never feel for any other person.

We were each other’s tar baby.

We were overwhelming underdogs.

We will either find a way, or make one.

We will tell you your baby is ugly.

We won’t always get it right, but we will always make it right.

We work in the dark.
We do what we can.
We give what we have.

We yearn for meaning, but deal with trivia.

We’d better fight the battle we’re in than the one we’d like to be in.

We'll humble your pie.

We're all in this alone.

We’re all just one step away from being what frightens us.

We’re all just who we are.

We’re going to drive the barbarians back to the shores and drown them in a sea of their own shit.

We’re in the business of collecting information. We’re not in the business of exchanging information.

We’re in the process of transforming schools one at a time.

We’re in the transportation business.  We transport you. … you sit there and get consumed.  And you walk out and hopefully we’ve moved you somehow.

We’re not first movers, but we’re fast movers.

We’re not in the coffee business, serving people.  We’re in the people business, serving coffee.

We're not only hands on, we're feet on.

We’re not perfectly compatible in our imaginations.

We're not saying it's an easy decision, just an inevitable one.

We've been through so much together, and most of it was your fault.

We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

We’ve got unlimited time for what interests us.

We’ve mined a lot of gold from our silver mine.

We've only got one good name.

Weak and right/strong and wrong.

Weak men are not in great demand.

Weak people cannot be sincere.

Weakness is provocative.

Wealth is obscene in the young; it stunts ambition.

Weapons have no conscience.

Weed the garden (Pittman)
Welcome anything that comes to you, but do not long for anything else.
Welcome sexual behavior is about as relevant to sexual harassment as borrowing a car is to stealing one.

Well behaved women rarely make history.

Well done is better than well said.

What a child doesn’t receive, he can seldom later give.

What allows genius to flower is not neurosis but tenacity and the ability to survive disappointment.

What a man can be, he must be.

What are the rules?  I said and he said you run and you run and you run until you fall over. There are a couple of others in there for variety, but that’s the main one.

What came before us, we can’t change.
What’s coming next, we can’t predict.
All we can do is act in the moment.  Be. There. Now.

What can be conceived can be created.

What can I do today that wouldn’t be done at all if I didn’t personally do it myself?

What can we do that we haven't done before?  What can we try that we haven't
tried before?

What can we live but days?

What do you say after you say “goodbye”?

What enables one to exercise talent is the ability to impose oneself.

What elevates people are values – a concrete sense of mission and purpose,

What garlic is to salad, insanity is to art.

What gets measured gets done.

What goes around comes around.

What good is the dawn
That grows into the day?
The sunset at night or living this way?

What got him to this place of recognition and respect was not ratings or money, but passion and skill and a sense of purpose.

What got you here won’t get you there.

What grows never grows old

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?...
Or does it explode?

What he dreams, I cannot imagine.

What he lacked in size, he made up in speed.  (about screwing Tom Arnold)

What hinders you?

What I have acquired is a feeling for art.  This feeling is not absolute; it is relative.  It came to me not as a blast of intuition but through the viewing of hundreds of paintings, and sorting them into a vague and fluid hierarchy.

What I most regret in my life are failures of kindness.

What if the rest of your life was the best of your life?

What is art if it’s not love?

What is essential is invisible to the eye.  One can see it with the heart.

What is history but a fable agreed upon?

What is my mother no longer doing for me?

What is now proved was once only imagined.

What is to give light is to endure burning.

What isn't tried won't work.

What it says is very clear – what it means is up to you.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies
within us.

What lies do you tell yourself, what fictions do you invent, to survive?

What made us dream that he could comb gray hair?

What nows not what ifs.

What one loves best are the things that fade.

What one man can invent, another can discover.

What people will want, but don’t know it yet.

What really good producers do is make you enthusiastic by the sheer force of their personalities about the most problematic ideas.

What really matters is what you do with what you have.

What seems to be is always better than nothing.

What sells is hope.

What shall we do now that we are happy?

What we anticipate seldom occurs; what we least expect generally happens. (Disraeli)

What we are familiar with, we cease to see. (Anais Nin)

What we don't know, we teach each other.

“What we have loved/Others will love, and we will teach them how.” (Wordsworth – The Prelude)

What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing.

What we need is more people who specialize in the impossible.

What we wanted, we did not know; what we knew, we did not want.

What will make them care? What will make them share? (FACEBOOK)

What will survive of us is love.

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

What you accept without thought, you lose the power to change.

What you are must always displease you, if you would attain to that which you
are not.
