TEDxWindyCity Inaugural Event
Proof Chicagoans Crave Events of Intellectual & Social Importance

On January 4, 2010 tickets went on sale for Chicago’s inaugural TEDx event with nothing more than a twitter account and a facebook fan page to spread the word. Seven (7) days later, the 150-seat event was sold out! This overwhelming response to TEDxWindyCity highlights both the power of the programming of the event as well as, Chicagoans thirst for intellectually stimulating and socially important events.

The independently produced event, operated under a license from TED, is being presented by Pivotal Production (www.pivotalchicago.com) and the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (www.msichicago.org). The first TEDxWindyCity event will take place on February 10, 2010 at Flashpoint Academy. The event runs from 5:30 – 8:30pm.
Organized around the theme “Creative Convergence” the event will feature local and national innovators.

Donald Marinelli, Executive Producer of the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon

Dawn Hancock, Creative Director and Owner of Firebelly Design

Zach Kaplan, CEO of Inventables

Rabiah Mayas, Science Director of the Center for the Advancement of Science Education at the Museum of Science and Industry

Ticket sales have pleasantly surprised the entire team. “I’m elated at the overwhelming response and support for this event. It has been absolutely delightful to have so many wonderful people reach out and ask how they can help simply because they believe in the power of making innovation and ideas accessible,” said Shannon Downey, TEDx licensee.

A second TEDxWindyCity event will be held on October 6, 2010 at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago.
