Howard Tullman
Howard Tullman is a successful entrepreneur who has made a significant difference in the lives of students and entrepreneurs worldwide.
Traditional forms of education are not the only avenues to success according to Howard Tullman
At age sixty six (66) Howard is very difficult man to keep up during any part of the day. He heads up Flashpoint Academy. The academy offers an innovative form of vocational education that brings together learning, technology, professionalism, and the pop culture.
Concerning vocational education, Howard had this to say:
“It’s a shame that the United States is the only country in the world where it’s considered downscale and horrible to go to any kind of vocational school. Everyplace else, there are apprenticeships, vocational training, all kinds of paths to be successful. We need that here.”
The oldest of six (6) children, Howard’s dad was a salesman, and his mom was a homemaker with local political aspirations in New Providence, New Jersey. Her competitiveness and perseverance rubbed off on Howard.
And Flashpoint Academy offers the perfect alternative to a four year college degree, as well as supplemental education.
One Flashpoint student graduated from MIT, and then attended Flashpoint Academy to learn the practical stuff (communication, team management, and interpersonal skills) that gets results, and makes a difference in the real world.
Ideas flow freely from the mind of Howard Tullman
Howard graduated with Honors from Northwestern University with a B.A. in 1967, and then received his law degree, J.D., in 1970 with Honors, also from Northwestern.
In addition to serving as President and CEO of Flashpoint Academy, Howard is President Emeritus of Kendall College in Chicago, Director of the Cobalt Group and Passage Events in Seattle, Chairman and CEO of Experiencia, Inc., General Managing Partner for the Chicago High Tech Investors, LLC, and an Adjunct Professor at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
Howard was appointed by President Clinton to the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, and served through the Clinton presidency.
With over thirty (30) years experience in management, operations, and development of information-based products and services, Howard has established a platform and curriculum for young people to transfer their love and passion for technology into practical work skills.
Applying practical skills on real projects
Flashpoint Academy offers a two (2) year associates degree in visual communication, film and broadcasting, games and interactive media, visual effects, animation, and recording arts. They work on real world projects from companies such as Disney, Neiman Marcus, and Microsoft.
Students receive the benefit of state-of-the-art technology (cameras, software, editing tools) that needs to be tested from Canon, Microsoft, and several others. There are game labs, music and sound studios, screening rooms, and editing facilities available to students. They work on real life projects from prominent companies and gain experience and exposure that lead to future job possibilities.
With this type of vocational education, students learn to be responsible business people as well as creative technicians. Although tuition is $25,000 per year, more than half of the students receive financial aid, and this is a very practical investment in one’s future.
The biggest investor in Flashpoint Academy is Tribeca Enterprises, which is co-founded by Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff, and Robert De Niro. According to Hatkoff,
”Flashpoint is a front seat on the world stage of what’s the Next Big Thing. If it’s exciting and state of the art, they’re either using it or they created it.”
The investors were drawn to the company because of the track record and intensity of Howard Tullman.
Again Hatkoff had this to say about Howard,
”What Howard has built over the course of his career is just extraordinary. I had never seen a resume like his before. I had to read it in two sittings.”
New ideas and ventures abound with Howard. Working on average 80 to 100 hours per week, he is devoted to his work at Flashpoint Academy, where he is able to train folks to be financial successes doing what they are excited about.
