BERNARDO TORRENS
In Torrens’s work one recognizes the heightened reality reminiscent of Spanish realism, capturing even the unflattering physical elements of his models along with their innermost spirit. It is precisely these humanistic qualities that make these figures approachable; the undeniable sense of reality that offers an immediate connection between the viewer and the painting. In Triptych, one of the artist’s bohemian Spanish muses offers three poses; see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil.
Torrens lives and works in Madrid, Spain. He has had several solo exhibitions there as well as in Milan, Italy and other major cities. In addition, his work was featured in group exhibitions such as Truth in Beauty, Beauty in Truth at the Boca Raton Museum of Art (Boca Raton, FL), Four from Madrid, Contemporary Spanish Realism at the Oglethorpe Museum (Atlanta, GA). He has also worked on commission to produce portraits of notable Spanish dignitaries such as the former president of the Spanish Parliament, Felix Pons.
