Recently I found out that I was the winner of an online painting competition I entered! Here's the press release that was sent to me with more information:
Deborah Hamon of Novato, California, has just been named the Grand Prize winner for her acrylic painting, High Achiever, in an international painting competition. The painting, which features four pre-teen girls in a fascinating drama about achievement, recognition, and archetypes, was selected from a field of 1,100 entries. In addition to the $2,000US cash award, the painting will be presented in an online gallery along with the 13 other winners from the competition.
This award is yet another step in Hamon’s growth as a nationally recognized artist. She has held several solo and group exhibitions of her work throughout the US, and was recently featured in the juried magazine, New American Paintings. Hamon earned her BFA from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, and her MFA from the University of California at Davis. Public collections holding Hamon’s work include the Howard Tullman Collection, the Morgan Flagg Collection, the UC Davis Shields Library Permanent Collection, and Woodland Memorial Hospital.
The Good Earth online painting competition is an annual event sponsored by CreateBetterPaintings.com, an online webzine for artists. The theme of the competition is the beauty of the earth and everything in it. “The jurying committee and I were delighted to see how broadly and creatively Ms. Hamon and the other participants interpreted the competition theme,” said Jennifer King, the webzine's Editor-in-Chief. “We chose Ms. Hamon’s painting because we felt it speaks volumes about our contemporary world. It’s a powerful social commentary.”
Starting on April 22, Earth Day, all 14 winners of the Good Earth competition will be exhibited on CreateBetterPaintings.com.
