CHRISTY SINGLETON

Graduated with MFA in Sculpture at University
of Tennessee, Knoxville and a BA in Drawing & Painting and Sculpture at University of Georgia, Athens. ASSISTANT TO BEVERLY PEPPER

Christy Singleton's new series is a distortion of an already twisted reality of contemporary society and culture. Her roots take her back to the south and
folk art. The crudeness is a laudable quality of her work. The subjects have an appearance of barely surviving a social catastrophe, fraying about their
own insecurities, fleeting aspirations, and maintaining roles and social strata. Socialite women are well trained in the school of "dog eats dog". Their big
hair, botox smiles, and breast implants are exaggerated in order to depict their desperate grasp of exemplifying their “best” features, while they are anxiously noticed and captured. The faces of Singleton’s “three graces” are made out of silicone, which is idyllic in substance and representation of the plasticity of their personalities. Regardless of the stigmas that surround this world of high society, sometimes one needs to take it for face value and celebrate it in all its ludicrous opulence. Fabulous!
