Flashpoint Academy Welcomed Noted Indian Producer-Director Ramesh Sharma for a Tour



PROFILE OF RAMESH SHARMA

Ramesh Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of Moving Picture Company (India) Ltd. is a well-known award winning   Feature film and Television Producer/Director whose films have won numerous awards in the Indian National and International  Film Festivals..  His very first film ( which he Produced and Directed) “RUMTEK” ( on a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery) won the National award for the best short film  in India, in 1979.  In 1980 this film was awarded a special jury prize in the Commonwealth Film and Television Festival held in Cyprus.

Mr. Ramesh Sharma’s feature film “NEW DELHI TIMES” (which he Directed) was critically acclaimed and won 4 awards in the National Film Festival in 1986 in India, including the Indira Gandhi Award for the Best Debut Film.

The film also won the  AM Brousil “OPERA PRIMA” award in the 25th International Karlovy Vary Film Festival and has been shown all over the world including the London Film Festival, Cairo International Film Festival , Melbourne Film Festival , Moscow International Film Festival. The film was the opening film for the Festival of Indian Cinema in Tashkent.

Mr. Ramesh Sharma has since been actively involved in film and television business and has written, directed and produced numerous short films as well as documentaries.  He has also partnered numerous co-productions with various television channels and production companies in Europe and America. Presently Mr. Ramesh Sharma is developing 2 major feature film co-productions with European partners, including one on the life and times of AMRITA SHER GIL.  He has produced over 2000 hours of television programming in various genres.

Mr Sharma produced one of India’s first original 3D animations series  JUNGLE TALES ( 10 episodes x 22 minutes each) based on the Panchatantra tales. The series was telecast on Cartoon Network and on Doordarshan. He is presently developing a number of animation projects  in India and abroad.

His list of credits includes the critically acclaimed ten part series  THE MAKING OF A NATION, another ten part series for INDIA TODAY- 25 INCREDIBLE YEARS,  52 minute documentaries on the Mahakumbh Mela (2002), (telecast on Rai TV, Italy), Afghanistan-The Taliban Years and Beyond (telecast on Discovery  Channel)  and Jihad- The Sword of Islam (2005) which has been telecast in over 20 countries worldwide.

Mr.Sharma produced and co-directed the 78 minute feature documentary The Journalist and The Jihadi- The Murder of Daniel Pearl. This co-production with HBO was telecast in the USA  in October 2006. It has been nominated for two EMMY awards this year.
Moving Picture Company India Ltd has recently completed production of ten spots for BBC World on the Incredible India theme. Moving Picture Company India Ltd. is one of the leading production houses in the country and produces programmes for almost all major TV channels including SONY, SETMAX, ZOOM, ZEE TV, ZEE MUSIC, SAHARA FILMY and Doordarshan. Among the shows produced by the company are CURRENT BOLLYWOOD, POPKORN, FILMY FEVER, LALLAN, KAUN BANEGA CHAMPU, LAVANYAA, B NEWS, SUBAH SAVERE and a host of other shows.

Mr. Ramesh Sharma is a member of the Key Advisory Body to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.  He is also a member of FICCI’s Entertainment committee in India and member of the Governing Council of the NASSCOM-FICCI-e@lliance . He has been appointed in 2005  for a period of two years- as Member of the Indo-China Sub Commission for  Film  and TV- an official body set up between the governments of India and China.
