ARTIST'S INFORMATION
Steve Hawley was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1950. He received both his B.A. and his M.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He went on to become a professor there, as well as teaching Painting and Drawing at the nearby Tufts University.
Hawley’s work has been covered by several different major publications including the New York Times, American Art Now and the Weekend Art World. He was the recipient of the Alternate Fulbright-Hays Full Grant in Painting to Italy and the Individual Artists Grant (Artists Foundation). He received the Resident Artist Grant from The Master School of Simsbury, Connecticut and was a finalist in the Massachusetts Artists' Foundation.
Hawley has been included in several art historical publications, including American Realism, and Art in the 1980’s. His work is included in such collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. In recent years, he has shown in several solo shows, as well as in group shows, in venues that range from across the United States, and reaching into Europe and Asia. He currently resides in Massachusetts.
