Proposed Lake Michigan party barge still in the works

Proposed Lake Michigan party barge still in the works

CHICAGO — The Breakwater Chicago project may soon become a reality. The man-made, resort island which will include dining and music spots is still in the works.

A group of investors launched a Kickstarter for the entertainment complex to be located on Lake Michigan way back in June 2014. The idea: a floating party barge about a mile off of Chicago’s shoreline. After several months of limited details on the project, Breakwater Chicago began sharing new renderings of its plans to Twitter earlier this month.

Curbed Chicago reported last week that Breakwater Chicago officials weren’t ready to provide many details just yet, but that they “just wanted to remind folks that we’re still working hard to bring Breakwater Chicago to fruition,” according to an unnamed representative for the project.
“We’ve had our heads down working through design and engineering for a while now, but things continue to move along nicely,” the representative added.
According to the Kickstarter page, supporters pitched in more than $60,000 to help fund the project.
According to multiple reports, early estimates suggest the project will cost $23 million.
