TULLMAN COLLECTION ARTIST AARON WHITE IN NEW SOLO SHOW IN SAN FRANCISCO

Aftermodern Gallery is pleased to announce that it is collaborating with Cain Schulte Contemporary Art to present a new solo exhibition for Los Angeles based artist, Aaron White, commencing on May 1, 2009.

The exhibition, entitled "French New Wave," is Aaron White's first solo exhibit in San Francisco since 2006 and will open in Cain Schulte's new contemporary "residential" gallery at 714 Guerrero Street (between 19th and 20th Streets in Dolores Park, San Francisco). An artist's opening reception with Aaron White will be held from 5:30 to 8:00 pm on May 1, 2009 at Cain Schulte Contemporary Art. Visit www.cainschulte.com for more information.

White, who was introduced to San Francisco art aficionados by Aftermodern in 2006, began his career as an anonymous underground artist on the streets of Los Angeles while earning a living as a commercial animator and graphic designer. In his work, the artist combines a gritty street aesthetic with appealing figures that are often erotic, dark and mysterious. His work is inspired by Diego Rivera, graffiti art and Mexican street murals, and influenced by an abstract expressionistic style that his now deceased father practiced for fifty years.

White’s “French New Wave” presents work drawn directly from his dreams to create exuberant, edgy and electric characters that reappear throughout his art. While some of White’s characters will seem familiar to those who have seen his earlier shows, new wounded, exuberant and sexy characters emerge who seem to be searching for redemption and seeking to survive our current zeitgeist. Set against intense backdrops exploding with color and texture, White’s work for this exhibit is his most mature commentary to date on the post contemporary urban experience. The exhibit is expected to run through June 6, 2009. Cain Schulte will introduce Aaron White ’s work in Berlin when it opens its new gallery in Germany during the fourth quarter of 2009.

White spent his early years in Woodstock, New York, where his father, abstract expressionist artist Saul White, lived and worked. In the 1970s, Aaron moved back to California where he began to hone his own artistic style. White's most recently completed exhibit prior to "French New Wave" was a group show presented in Boston at Monserrat College of Art From November 2006 to February 2007 entitled "Electric Wasteland Urban Art from L.A." His work has also been featured in the LA Times, Surfer and Rolling Stone magazines. He has created advertising campaigns for Converse Sneakers, Hurley Clothing, Fox Sports Broadcasting, Nickelodeon television and MTV. His art is exhibited at Flashpoint Academy in Chicago and is in the private collection of Howard Tullman, a prominent entrepreneur and collector of contemporary urban art.

About Aftermodern LLC:

Aftermodern LLC, a fine art gallery, presented its first exhibit in its architecturally designed gallery at 445 Bryant Street in San Francisco’s SoMa District on December 10, 2005. During the succeeding three years, Aftermodern presented more than two dozen art exhibits all of which were dedicated to showcasing select emerging and mid-career artists and photographers whose art uniquely probed the contemporary urban experience in terms of the social, sexual, political and spiritual constructs that define our collective existence. Its exhibits spanned a broad spectrum: including works whose imagery challenges one’s sense of reality and pieces created by those whose critical self-awareness goes beyond modernism. Aftermodern announced recently that it has suspended retail operations due to the global economic and financial crisis. We can be reached at 415-512-7678 or at info@aftermodern.com.
